How I got clear my AKU MBBS test?

Candidate 01

Greetings Everyone.I am Maha Khowaja from AKU'25 (i.e a first year MBBS Student at AKU,Karachi)

This is a guide for passing MBBS Entry Test at AKU.

Disclaimer : this is a personal experience so nothing is guaranteed.Continue reading at your own risk.

Math Reasoning :

SAT : I personally opted for online practice (khan academy etc) and learning concepts of each and every topic like here is the list of Math topics I worked on:

1. Permutations and Combinations

2. Probability

3. Graphs : linear (slope , parallel lines , perpendicular lines)

4. Graphs : quadratic ( shape , plotting equation of functions

5. Graphs: presenting inequalities

6. Graphs : Standard Deviation , Means, Mode, Median , Average

7. Graphs : equation of circle (point outside inside on the circle )

8. Series ( Arthematic and Geometric)

9. Geometry : area of circle and semi circle ( radian )

10. Area and perimeter of shapes ( polygons , square, rectangle , rhombus ,parallelogram, triangle and all its parts.) And Volume of 3D shapes

11. Coordinate system and trigonometry (only basics)

13. Algebraic problems like linear equations (simultaneous)

14. Counting Figures

15. Ratio and Proportion

16. Percentage

17. Pie charts

Practice Question ( https://drive.google.com/folderview... )

KANGROO: It was highly recommended by seniors and I knew after appearing in the test so I wish I have solved more of them especially JUNIOR like GRADE 6 to 8 and 8 to 10.

Scientific Reasoning :

I really didn't work much on it but I solved worksheets (hmu if you want to look at them) but I believe your comprehensive and mathematical skill is really gonna help there so better sharp those and in the end it's just about time management.

Protip : ACT past papers are good source so.do try them.

Sciences : This is a POV of FSc student.

I believe concepts that you learnt in college matter the most not the textbooks or your source materials

I opted for National Curriculum books for Biology and Punjab Curriculum books for Chemistry and Physics.

Protip: Please keep some notes for these subjects in hand (self written or market ) beacuse towards the end it's gonna be hard revising all of the stuff up.

I had ANEES HUSSAIN ' s AKU books.

Practice Questions

1.KIPS or STAR or your local academy or college practice tests anything to retain concepts

Maybe they will come handy if you don't have any ( https://drive.google.com/folderview... )

2.AKU EB Past Papers

Also suggested by seniors.4 to 5 years and you're fine.

3.A level Past papers

4.SAT Books : I used PRINCETON but you can do better so KAPLAN or BARRON'S. These SAT question were the most intriguing beacuse they weren't bookish at all and few of the questions in test were totally like this.

5.NTS , NUMS and UHS Past papers : we are going to do them anyway so I recommend doing them before AKU test it kinda helps.

So I kinda just wanna say that about practice, just don't limit yourselves to one source. EXPLORE it all

Last but not least I highly recommend this playlist for biology prep of the test.Check it out (not sponsored:p)

Bye!!!

Candidate 2

Hello, I am Shahid Iqbal. I have been selected to AKU in its MBBS programme -class of 2025.

This is how I prepared.

1st things 1st: Go to www.aku.edu and print out the syllabus for MBBS programme (This is a must)

Curriculum; For sciences portion (physics biology chemistry) I had studied both National Curriculum books and A- levels Coursebooks. I tried to not skip a single SLO from the syllabus. additionally, I had also studied SAT-2 prep books.

For mathematics: I had taken help from 'SAT 1 prep books' and 'kangaroo mathematics' . SAT helped me learn essential rules and shortcut tricks of the important chapters of maths. In addition to that I used to practice full length paper of kangaroo mathematics. This helped me alot, as there is alot of resemblance of kangaroo mathematics and AKU's maths.

For Science Reasoning; I had practiced the science reasoning portion from ACT past papers.

some general guidelines

1) Make a good study plan for yourself, and also make yourself time bound, like I had planned that I would complete my syllabus in 3-4 months(for the 1st time) and then i will do my revision in the next 2 month. Additionally, I made a study plan for everyday like I would complete (x y z chapters) today, the next ABC chapters the next day and so on. This helped me study consistently and also helped me avoid distractions.

2) Try to solve as many full length papers as possible, like I used to solve SAT2 papers from prep books and cracksat.net (every second day or third day). I used to solve past papers of kangaroo mathematics. This will help u with time management for the test, and also u can asses your preparation and pinpoint your areas of weakness.

Remember! there are people who study only FSc coursebooks and get into AKU, and also there are people who do not go through all the resources I mentioned, but get into aku. The point I want to make clear is that you don't need to study everything I mentioned. STUDY THE RESOURCES, U FEEL U NEED TO STUDY!

Some useful sites and resources

Princeton review's SAT 2 prep books and Barron's SAT 1 prep book.

www.purplemath.com ( for some math problems -average's problems, work's problems, percentages' problems etc)

www.youtube.com/ physics wallah-alakh panday( for physics. follow it when necessary . no need to attend every lecture)

www.cracksat.net (for full length sat papers)

www.crackact.com (helpful for science reasoning) u can also print past ACT papers from blog.prepscholar.com)

www.ikmc.kangroo.org.pk (past papers of kangaroo mathematics)- better print them.

theakuchallange.blogspot.com( this is a blog of aku students, a very helpful tool for aku test and interview. all of you MUST go through it)

Hope this was helpful

BEST OF LUCK!
